Department of Chemistry and Department of Molecular Biosciences Northwestern University 3613 Silverman Hall Evanston, IL 60208 Voice: 847-467-4362 Email: n-kelleher@northwestern.edu Personal Homepage 2000 Searle Scholar Research InterestsProfessor Kelleher is a bioanalytical chemist and is interested in finding novel posttranslational modifications and studying enzymatic mechanisms of large enzymes (>500 kDa). Using high-resolution mass spectrometry to spearhead the research, we correlate protein fragmentation data to fully sequenced genomes to scan for chemically-altered gene products and the cellular alteration machinery. Also, the biosynthesis of many clinically-used drugs occurs on ultralarge enzymes acting as solid supports for covalent catalysis, ideal for study by mass spectrometry.
