Applications are invited from selected universities and research institutions. Because there are limits on the number of applications that will be accepted from each invited institution, individuals considering submitting applications should consult with their Provost, Graduate Dean, or similarly situated academic officer to determine how selections will be made within their institutions.

On-line application forms and instructions for the year 2009 awards will be available to our invited institutions in early-June. Potential applicants should obtain the on-line application passwords from the appropriate administrative office at their institution. Applications are to be submitted by the institution and not by individual candidates.

Applications for awards to be activated on July 1, 2009 must be received no later than Friday, September 26, 2008.

Awards
Normally 15 grants of $100,000 per year for three years will be made; funding for the second and third years will be contingent upon the submission of acceptable progress reports. The awards will be made to tax-exempt institutions described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and will be designated for the support of the research programs described in the applications.
